“For all their dysfunctions, aberrations, and abject failures, nothing else has come close to markets for their effectiveness in pulling humanity out of poverty.”
Michel has spent more than 20 years living and developing businesses in Asia. He created his first enterprise in Vietnam at the age of 25, and has operated a number of medium-sized companies in the region since. While obtaining his MBA at INSEAD, Michel developed a special interest in the convergence of the private and development sector resulting in the emergence of an hybrid ecosystem of innovative Social Enterprises, Alternative Finance Institutions, and Impact Investments Funds, seeking “profit with purpose.”
In January 2015, Michel joined iDE with the goal of lending his seasoned managerial and business experience to alleviate some aspects of poverty in Cambodia. Michel’s aspiration resonated with iDE's dedication and results in fighting poverty by leveraging market forces to deliver social impact at scale. During his tenure as iDE Cambodia WASH Director, Michel has implemented iDE’s flagship WASH program, Sanitation Marketing Scale-Up, which has become the world’s largest market-based rural sanitation program.
