As Program Manager, Melba is responsible for the overall implementation of all projects in Mozambique's Beira Corridor, ensuring achievement of project goals and indicators. For this, she ensures project partners are actively involved in key project processes, project staff are given adequate guidance, data/information are adequately captured on time, projects' progress are fully documented and reported to donors and partners, and project staff are given feedback on their overall performance. Melba believes that transparency and strong collaboration among departments within the organization create a working environment that enables success.
Melba earned a Master’s in Management (major in Business Management) from Isabela State University in the Philippines, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management from Benguet State University (Philippines). Before joining iDE full-time in 2017, she was Agro-Enterprise Development Specialist for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) based in Nigeria, and later managed two multi-country projects in Southern Africa (Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, and Swaziland); Senior Advisor on Private Sector Development for SNV Netherlands Development Organization in Mozambique; Project Officer for the Development Academy of the Philippines; and Marketing and Enterprise Development Specialist for the Central Cordillera Agricultural Programme (CECAP) in the Philippines.
She enjoys hiking and trekking and other outdoor activities as well as playing badminton and lawn tennis. A devout Christian, she places a high value on honesty and trustworthiness. She is happy to be a part of an organization that helps the less fortunate and follows the motto of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
