Martha Gebeyehu is the WASH & Public Health Director at iDE, leading the organization’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and public health initiatives in Ethiopia. She is responsible for the development, implementation, and effectiveness of WASH strategies that improve health outcomes in both humanitarian and development settings. Her role includes managing iDE’s national WASH programs, promoting and scaling WASH technologies, strengthening supply chains, and driving business development and partnerships. She also supervises WASH Managers and team leaders and serves as the primary liaison with donors, partners, and government stakeholders.
A WASH professional with 15 years of experience, Martha brings deep expertise in leadership, training facilitation, and community development. She previously served as the coordinator of the Water Expertise Training Center at the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church, a local faith-based NGO. Known for her strong communication skills, integrity, and passion for social justice, she is committed to improving access to safe water and sanitation for disadvantaged populations in Ethiopia.
Martha holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Lead Star University and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry from Addis Ababa University. In 2019, she was internationally recognized as the 6th International Water Prize Winner by the University of Oklahoma for her significant contributions to WASH in developing countries. She joined iDE in March 2020 as a WASH Manager and was later promoted to WASH & Public Health Director.
