Vishal Raj believes that everyone deserves the good things in life - not just the ones who can afford it. He leads the design and innovation department at iDE Ghana and serves as an advisor to iDE Global Design team. In his role as a director, designer, and researcher, Vishal leads programs in the design of human-centered products and services in both the Agriculture and WASH sectors
Vishal obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Prior to joining iDE, he worked for a technology start-up where he designed intelligent and energy-efficient LED lighting solutions that are lighting up major highways in Russia.
Vishal joined iDE in 2013 as a Design Fellow and began working with iDE Nepal as the lead product designer responsible for iDE’s WASH scale up program. He then moved to support WASH activities in Cambodia, where he was instrumental in reinventing the Easy Shelter, designing a new hand hygiene device, and designing a new business model for Cambodia’s Lors Thmey program. In 2016, Vishal was part of the design team that developed the Sama Sama toilet for iDE’s WASH program in Ghana. Vishal is now working with Ghana on a hand hygiene device, as well as helping to infuse iDE Ghana with design-thinking and innovation methodologies.
