Andrea leads iDE's efforts in Ethiopia. Her development principles can be easily captured by the phrase ‘people first.’ As an experienced manager Andrea knows the value of prioritizing the personal aspect of our work. She views managers as facilitators of creativity and problem solving; staff as drivers of development; and importantly, she sees customers as people who can write their own future. Andrea brings expertise in business development, financial management, and communications, all of which will help further strengthen the Ethiopia portfolio and an already very strong team.
Before joining iDE in January 2018, Andrea spent a year and a half in Ethiopia managing USAID’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Program. She led a global health effort for USAID worldwide offices from Washington, DC. Andrea provided critical leadership in Haiti for two years on the country's largest agriculture and market access program, reaching smallholder farmers throughout the country. And, Andrea worked in Uganda as the Deputy Chief of Party of an HIV/AIDS project, leading a multi-donor consortium to deliver services and build capacity of local organizations.
Andrea is originally from El Salvador, and when not focusing on improving the lives of Ethiopians, she enjoys traveling, cooking, time with her family, and Latin dancing.
