Abdi has a broad perspective on business, accounting, and finance, with formal training and wide experience in all three sectors. Originally from Ethiopia, Abdi received her B.A. In Accounting from Addis Ababa University and worked for four years in the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, the U.S. Embassy, and U.S.AID. Seeking to expand her financial understanding, Abdi enrolled in a grueling two-year MBA program in Finance at Vanderbilt University, where she interacted with an international coterie and mastered Western-oriented business concepts that, along with her previous experience, provides her with a unique perspective on how the world’s financial systems operate. After a short internship at a Private Equity firm in New York, Abdi moved to Denver and was a Senior Accountant at the Colorado Society of CPAs and its Educational Foundation, during which time she decided to add yet another tool to her skill set and become a Certified Public Accountant. She joined iDE in 2011, eager to return to the work of international development that she had first discovered while working with USAID in Ethiopia. She was promoted to Vice President of Finance in 2016, where her in-depth knowledge of accounting, financial management, and iDE’s programs is matched by her exceptional commitment to supporting iDE’s teams in achieving our global mission.
